SublimeVilla were approached recently to assist in hosting the TEDxYouthDay event in Aveiro, Portugal.
TEDxYouthDay is a series of TEDx events happening all around the world coinciding with Universal Children’s Day, from November 19th – 21st, 2011. These events are designed to empower and inspire young people.
Artists MAB and KHAN from Yo Daddys Crew assisted in creating the “Graffiti Bus” at Teatro Aveirense. Here’s a recap of the event and a local news report courtesy of Localvisão TV.
“SublimeVilla was invited to be part of the TEDxYouthDay@Aveiro, which is an official TEDxYouthDay event in Portugal. Since the support they required was in the area of Graffiti/Street Art, we got Ironlak on board to get the job done.
“To launch the promotional campaign for the event, we decided to paint a bus in the city center! Why a bus with graffiti? Because the motto of this year’s event is “You Think, Therefore You Create,” and we wanted to showcase the creativity of Aveiro’s youth. We invited local young people to participate in this project, and encouraged them to not be afraid of thinking and doing. Everyone (even adults!) lent a hand, and had the chance to create the artwork (seen below) on our bus. While everyone worked, four young musicians from a band played live music.
“The resulting “Graffiti Bus” was defined by TED people as an amazing piece of art. One of the most rewarding aspects for us was putting cans on the hands of kids and show them the beauty of creativity.
“In Aveiro, we believe in the power of our young people. We believe that they will think constructively, think in innovative ways, and think forward. We believe that from this way of thinking, beautiful products will be created for five weeks, the TEDxYouth@Aveiro bus traveled around our city, inviting our community to embrace the TEDxYouth@Aveiro event and to believe in our youth.” –SublimeVilla.
