Running simultaneously with this year’s Valley Fiesta, as a part of the arts program, Shida will launch his latest exhibition ‘Rites of Joy’. Shida is a multidisciplinary artist, hailing from strong Brisbane roots. He is known for his dynamic murals, monumental in scale spread across Australia and the world.
In ‘Rites of Joy’, Shida explores the relationship between ritual, sexuality and love. Psychedelic entities are entwined in a ceremonial act transcending the bounds of known reality. In a world where society’s issues are becoming increasingly gendered and people are seemingly more divided than ever due to the rise of identity politics. Shida seeks to turn this tide like an ancient shaman with each works being in essence an invocation, an energetic manifestation, a prayer to joy.
The opening event will be held Friday, 28 October, 6–9pm, at This Must be the Place – 680 Ann Street, Fortitude Valley. Located between award winning venues Laruche and APO, it will be a Friday night event not to be missed.
The evening is sponsored by Young Henrys.
