The PangeaSeed Foundation brought ‘Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans’ back to Napier, in the Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand between March 19 and 26, 2017. With a fresh line up of 25 extraordinary contemporary international muralists the festival focussed on creating thought-provoking public murals aimed at shedding light on New Zealand’s pressing marine environmental issues such as shark finning, overfishing, coastal development, climate change, and endangered marine life conservation.
In addition to the realisation of these world-class murals, the artists had the opportunity to immerse themselves into and experience the various marine ecosystems of Napier and learn about traditions, culture, and environmental challenges from local experts. In a perfect marriage of core values, the artists of Sea Walls used Sugar Artists’ Acrylic for the aerosol components of their large scale works and we were on the ground in Napier to catch all of the action! Huge thanks go out to Tre’ and Cinzah for having us, til next time!
