Sam’s story – as told by Tues.

“A couple of months ago I had the opportunity to head over to Perth to meet and paint with a remarkable young bloke by the name of Sam.

Sam’s mate Corey had told me Sam’s story and had invited me over. Not long after touching down I found the pair of larrikins hanging out at the train station where we were supplied with a wall to paint. After a few introductions we hooked into the wall, deciding to use blues for the pieces and a stencil type background featuring the relevant tags. The wall turned out pretty cool and everyone was happy with the final product.

You wouldn’t know it to meet the guy, however, a few months prior to this weekend Sam had been diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer and had only been given months to live. I had somewhat prepared myself mentally for meeting Sam as this was something I struggled to come to terms with, I simply couldn’t imagine how too deal with this at any age, let alone 16.

What I wasn’t prepared for was Sam’s completely selfless nature and awesome attitude to life. I cant thank you enough mate. It was so inspiring to meet a guy faced with such odds and to have him be so completely cool and confident. We got the opportunity to hang out again the following day and we painted an alleyway in town with the guys from The Butcher Shop, another great day was had and another wall completed.

On the Sunday the Ironlak BBQ Burners Perth was about to kick off so we invited Sam and Corey to come along and have a paint. Sam almost didn’t make it because he was feeling ill, but showed up in true trooper fashion and got the job done. A special thanks also to Sam’s mum for the lift to the airport, you have a beautiful family.

So Sam I just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to hang out and ’til next time we rock a wall, whatever dimension that may be, peace mate.
