RONE – Empty

After a busy few years travelling and focussing primarily on outdoor murals, Melbourne-based artist Rone has been back in the studio working on canvas again. In addition, he’s been exploring long-forgotten derelict spaces and reintroducing the human touch, or as Rone puts it; “Painting beautiful works in these places of neglect, to try and highlight what may of been lost, or perhaps what we are trying to hold onto.” In a moment of synchronicity, the opportunity arose for Rone to use soon-to-be-demolished former Star Lyric Theatre building in Fitzroy’s Johnston Street. The result, his new solo exhibition ‘Empty’, a beautiful send off held in the final moments of this iconic building. The show consists of a selection of works on paper, canvas and for the first time; photographic pieces.

The opening night has been and gone, with 1400 people coming through the doors in one night. If you weren’t one of them – there’s still a good chance to see the show with your own eyes. The exhibition runs until Sunday 23 October, opening daily: 12pm – 5pm.
