Momentum Art Tech | SxSW Roadtrip 2012 – Austin, Texas, USA.

“With help from Ironlak and Fuckinghater.com, the Momentum team was able to make it out to Austin for SxSW 2012. A 19+ hour road trip starting at 3am, to get to one of the dopest walls in all of Austin. Good food, bad gas, and a lot of dead bugs.

This being the first SxSW for Momentum, we weren’t sure what to expect. But we were pleasantly surprised. The city was packed with everyone looking to have a great time. We walked around for a few hours taking it all in before we finally arrived at our crash spot. Speaking of which, the people of Austin are some of the chillest, welcoming people we’ve ever met. Let 4 total strangers from Chicago crash in thier living room. That’s love.

The next morning we woke up to prep for a long day of painting and handing out free Ironlak paint, and Momentum grab bags. The Yellow Jacket Social Club was where it all went down. With a Mechanical Bull/Hippo looking hybrid, you KNOW this party couldn’t be missed. All day, Live music, painting, drinks, food, and great people. Oh and a train that passed by EVERY 10 minutes. I know in a lot of other city’s, being that close to a live train wouldn’t fly. Austin is a different story, granted the boy’s in blue were there, but just to warn of the coming train.

The wall itself was a gem. Minus some areas starting to look like a swap, it was all you could ask for. The guys at Fuckinghater.com really went hard with making sure this production was solid. Long, High, and filled with style. A non-stop stream of people coming to admire, chat, take photos, and even offer drinks, and other “accommodations.” It really was great.

But as soon as it started, it ended. After 10 hours in the sun, all the Ironlak paint used, all the grab bags given, and a nice case of sun burn, the Momentum team was ready to pack it up and head back to base.

If it only didn’t take a day to get there..” –Momentum.
