Yard Master presents Freight Train Friday with TASK

The weekend is just about here which means it’s time for Freight Train Friday. This week we featur special guest TASK

Yo TASK, where do you call home?

The South. Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Georgia.

How and when did fist you get into graffiti?

I saw 1 fat cap tag…. and then I think in 1993 or 94 I had a kid move next door to me from Nashville Tenn. He had some Rex2 and Tackz photos. I was already tagging on things, but seeing these pieces really lit the fire.

Once that fire starts, it’s hard to put out! How do you like to describe your style?

The goal is for my style to look like a hallucination. So no rules to my style. No lines have to be the same or consistent or make sense. Fundamentals are optional. There is no 3D only another layer. -Southern Tech for short.

What do you enjoy most about graffiti?

The part where I’m actually spraying the paint. All the prep is fun, the sketching and hunting spots and packing and being organized is cool too. But just being in the zone while spraying is the best.

How often do you get out to paint? Is it something you plan?

I keep a bag on me. If I have the time, I pull up. I have an odd work schedule. Sometime I can’t plan, I just have to hit it, go weekends or I get a couple weeks off and I can binge.

You paint plenty of freights, do you have a favourite car?

I dunno if Its the absolute favorite, but I really want a Tokai Carbon CB black hopper. But I’m worried about the content. Black Hoppers are black because they come from a really nasty dirty place. So, when I do get one, there will be heavy prep. Gloves mask goggles, sleeves pants, boots. Tokia also sells carbon to nuclear power plants. So I might never get one…

Where do you draw influence from?

Industrial landscapes, robots, nature, comic books, sci fi movies … And mostly my close friends. Better to be influenced by someone you know.

What keeps you motivated?

I’m finally able to paint the way I want. For too long I had too many problems. My life is sorted now, so it’s easy. And graffitti saved my life a few times. So painting is built in, it makes me happy to go paint. No motivation needed. No more painting for money, just out here with my friends or by myself.

Do you have any graffiti advice to younger writers?

Go alone, more often and talk less.

Is there any one you’d like to give a shout out to?

TM! It the only crew I write, so shout out to the crew. Rex2, Pako, Audroc, Codak, Paser, Likes, Hider and Timber.
