Putting ironlak to the test!

Monday Feb 1, 2010. Temperature: -9c

A good day to try out the new Ironlak TAR 500 ml Black. The rumor said that the new TAR can would work in the cold and on wet paint, so why not try the can under those conditions? Started out with an Astro Fatcap for the fill-in & background to speed things up. Then using a New York Fat for the outlines. My first impression was that this paint was really BLACK. Not like other TAR cans that always have a shade of brown in them. The color output turned out to be a bit hollow inside but clean on the edges, but if you just kept the can close to the wall total coverage was no problem.

Just like most of the other TAR cans on the market the coverage is really good. What separates Ironlak TAR BLACK and similar products is the “more” black coloring and lower pressure of the can.

I also tried the Pink Fat to see if it could handle a fast fill-in. Hell Yes! No problems there either.

Summary:
Color: Thick deep black
Pressure: Medium
Output: Excellent with most caps on the market
Coverage: High
Dryness: Long (-9 c)
Lasting: Average

In my opinion the paint is suitable first and foremost for fast chrome/black pieces, but on wet Ironlak it works like a charm! If you like a more deep black on your TAR cans this is exactly the product that you are looking for.

Overall: Ironlak 500ml TAR Black gets 7 Fatcaps out of 10 possible!
