Welcome to a new spot on lak.com called ‘Your favourite writer’s favourite writers’. The concept is super simple – we’re talking to some of the best in the game and asking them to list writers or artists who they consider some of their favourites.
We can’t continue this series without talking to the dude who is probably your favourite writer’s favourite writer: SOFLES. Well, at the least, he’s the writer I think of when I hear this phrase – and I can still visualise the sign-off of the same phrase that he added beside one of his many walls in the back of Jugglers Art Space in Brisbane. Given that he also once wrote ‘Only clowns wear crowns’ beside another piece, I’d assume the former Juggers sign-off was tongue in cheek. It still doesn’t make it any less true.
Mach KGB
“True king on all levels. Mach has done so much quantity, but all quality too. Non-stop and always pushing the limits. He does characters, pieces, simples all very well.”
Nokier
“Low-key king! Nok has done so much, in so many places. I love the simplicity and the relentlessness. A really cool and smart dude. He has gone from humble beginnings to world takeover.”
Osman
“Probably my favourite writer. He has had a massive influence on me over the years and I have painted so much with him. He’s also pretty low-key but has had a huge influence on the scene and is always evolving. Osman is also one who has produced bulk quality.”
Sobek & Kcis
“The twins from Serbia are on some next level shit. I was fortunate enough to hang with these guys in Copenhagen, Paris, the Netherlands and a few other cities. The way they paint as one. Their layers and techniques are really impressive. They’re always innovating and evolving.”
The Nos
“This dude has been one of my biggest inspirations in graffiti. His simple-to-tech pieces, and flawless execution. The amount – and different styles/words is crazy to me. ‘Reasonable People’ is still my all-time favourite graffiti movie. You really can’t comprehend the amount of work and styles produced in this. No one will ever come too close in my eyes.”
