SIRUM1, DEM189, & AKUZE Getting Up in Darwin – Part Two

Late last year, SIRUM from Melbourne spent a week in Darwin for the 2019 edition of Darwin Street Art Festival. DEM189 and AKUZE were along for the ride, and together they got up to some extracurricular activities.

We’ve already posted part one of the flicks, today we’re giving you part two – and we pass the mic back to SIRUM to hear more about their trip to the Northern Territory.

“Darwin is dope for spots. It’s only limited by one’s imagination. With only a small, yet pretty tight scene up there – walls, drains, buildings, or whatever the surface –aren’t caked and layered like they are in most of Australia’s capital or larger cities. If you’re willing to go adventuring, it’s pretty easy to find virgin spots to paint. The only problem I find is never having enough time on my side to paint them all. There are a handful of dope local writers in town that do make the most of it though – Tikls, Seams, and Theos to name a few.”

“We were in town for a week and had a good time. The heat is the killa up north. I’m talking about 40+ degree (Celsius) days, which becomes a bit taxing after a few days in the sun. Luckily everyone is on ‘Darwin time’ up there, so we adopted the mindset and just cruised through the week, going swimming and of course sinking a few beers along the way. Productivity was still high as we ended up painting a number of productions in some pretty deadly spots.” –SIRUM ONE
