Selina Miles – Ten Years Since ‘Sofles – Hustlin’

Today marks ten years since the talented Selina Miles published her first video to the Ironlak YouTube account. The video was ‘SOFLES – Hustlin’’ and was the beginning of a decade of filmmaking adventures for Selina. Since that day ten years ago, Selina has been involved in the production of at least 100 Lak videos (that’s a guess), including notable self-initiated projects ‘Sofles – Infinite’ and ‘Sofles – Limitless’, before moving on to create a TV series ‘The Wanderers’ for ABC, and most recently her first feature documentary ‘Martha: A Picture Story’, plus a whole lot more in-between.

We’re so proud of Selina – her relentless work ethic and creativity is the reason she’s where she is today. We’re just stoked to be a small part of her journey. We reached out to Selina today to get her perspective on this decade-old video. Here’s what she had to say:

“In Brisbane, there was this huge, three-storey Art Deco warehouse that had somehow been taken over by artists. It was called The Fort, and was the heart of the Brisbane creative world at that time. Sofles, Fintan Magee, and Scott Marsh all lived on the top floor, and the rest of the building was filled with studios, galleries, and a music venue. There would be people coming through to paint in the carpark every few days. Sofles had decided it was time to show his face to the world, and together we shot this clip over a few hours. We just figured it out as we went along. As soon as I touched that editing software, something clicked, and I knew I’d found what I wanted to do. We gave the video to Ironlak, and they gave me a job editing their online content. That moment set me on the path that I’m still on today, 10 years later. ❤️” –Selina Miles.
