We kicked off our Chinese Ironlak BBQ Burners in Shenzhen, TUES and the Fat Controller were there to fire up the BBQ (almost).
Tuesy gives us the scoop on the day.
“Shenzhen is an industrial city in the south of China, we have a small but committed family of Ironlak heads there so felt it best to kick off our Asian BBQ Burners in such a lovely place. So off to Walmart we went to grab supplies, of course they have a BBQ section so it was pretty straight forward to get everything, that is except for ice. Got to keep those Tsing Taos cool so we tried to buy a few bags. Apparently Walmart doesn’t sell ice, they have tonnes of it in the butchers section though; so Mok grabbed a shovel and we filled up some dodgy bags straight out of the meat hall.
We arrived to the spot and proceeded to fire up the BBQ. You would imagine that for a couple of Aussie blokes this would be possible with our hands tied behind our backs. After half an hour of the worst fire building attempts on record we reluctantly let a young local bloke have a crack. Within minutes it was obvious he had normal hand to eye co-ordination and a general knowledge about how to build a fire. He turned out to be a local unemployed chef living under the freeway we were painting next to, and for a small fee he would be excited to prepare all of our food, what an absolute champion! He even walked up and down the wall offering BBQ snacks to the punters as he pulled them off the grill.
All in all the day was a success, a huge thank you to Touch, Mok and crew for the efforts in organising the spot and writers. Apparently some serious partying went down post wall, but Fat C and I were already on our way home that evening, maybe next time guys.”
