On July 10, Trevor ‘Trouble’ Andrews released a limited print run of 10 sets of the original GUCCIGHOST design. In an online frenzy, the artworks sold out in 8 minutes flat, fetching £2390 per pop.
“The prints were created after I did one pull from the first ever GUCCIGHOST silkscreen that I have not used since 2013. I poured resin on the screen so it will never be used again. This will be the last time you see this original version of the GUCCIGHOST,” said Andrews in a statement.
Back in 2013, Andrews first revealed the GUCCIGHOST in Brooklyn, New York where he went about tagging his vision of the Gucci brand logo. The personalised off-shoot gathered considerable attention on social media and in 2016 Andrews was invited to Milan by the legendary creative director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele to partner on a range of designs, which were launched on the global stage at the New York Fashion Week in Los Angeles.
Currently, Andrews has artworks on show at the Jeffrey Deitch Gallery in Los Angeles, on display until August 17th. Andrews gave insight into the artworks online saying, “These are images we’ve seen our whole lives, super familiar and nostalgic, evoking specific emotional responses. I made them with just spray paint, no brush, staying true to my street shit..”
This exhibition came after the worldwide launch of Andrew’s own fashion line, Real Buy. A busy man, earlier this year Andrews was involved in the Citi Sound Vault experience hosted by Citi Bank with proceeds going to Musician On Call.
In an effort to understand the ferocity that drives Andrews to be so productive, you can turn to bits and pieces he suggest online, as Andrews has said, “You must always be yourself, no matter what the price.”
