‘First Coat’ is Toowoomba’s first street art festival.
A Toowoomba Regional Council, Graffitit Stop, Kontraband Studios and Toowoomba Youth Service initiative, ‘First Coat is already putting Toowoomba ‘on the map’ in street art circles.
The weekend will see Ironlak Family members EWOK, MR WANY, REALS, MEKS, SOFLES, TUES, TREAS and YESMA painting alongside Brisbane globetrotter FINTAN MAGEE and locals TWOLAKS, DAMIEN KAMHOLTZ, THEGRID and ALICE WEINTHAL to produce 15 large scale murals throughout the CBD.
The full program of eventsincludes an official launch party at local screen-printing studio & graffiti store Kontraband Studios. There’ll be an exhibition opening for Australian printhouse StupidKrap (who represents an eccletic mix of artists both nationally and internationally) at Kontraband’s No Comply gallery on the Saturday night and artist talks presented by Analogue Digitial at The Strand Cinemas on Sunday afternoon.
Jason Wardle from RMA Engingeers have offered their exterior walls to the project and are excited by the creative change that is about to take place in Toowoomba.
Stating that they’re excited to offer “a canvas for artists to display imaginative works of art which can be appreciated by the wider community.”
The fifteen artists will begin works on their allocated walls throughout Toowoomba’s CBD on Friday, February 21, with works finishing up on Sunday the 23rd.
