This week in Miami, DOES has unveiled the latest sculpture in his ‘BRIQUE’ series. Titled ‘AKOSUA’, BRIQUE N°7 contains elements which were gathered from the spot where DOES first started painting graffiti in 1997 – the isolated overgrown location where he returned recently to paint a tribute for his wife, which you may remember from his recent video of the same name – ‘AKOSUA’.
“To DOES, extracting fractions from his painted walls is the perfect way to tell a story that is much more than what people can imagine. BRIQUE is an artifact made of pieces of walls, mixed with plaster and colours. It is an archeology of the present time that recalls the story of graffiti culture. It is an object that carries on it the coordinates of a specific site and that establishes the link with the streets. It is a time capsule that wants to open up your mind as art always does.”
BRIQUE N°7 ‘AKOSUA’ is on display until 30 December 2019 at Sober Collective Art Gallery, 80 NE 29th Street, Miami, Florida 33137, UNITED STATES.
