It’s no surprise to us that DOES is kicking off 2017 with a bang. In doing so, he’s launching a series of short videos to give you insight into the production process of some of his projects.
For his project ‘Grind’, DOES visited Sober Collective Laserlab in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to add a laser engraved design on a hand painted skate deck. Laser engraving is a high tech process that uses super powerful light to apply images to a surface – in this case for example, art to a skate deck. To accomplish this the laser burns away a small layer of wood which leads to a debossed print on the skate deck and allows the grain of the board to show through.
This skate deck was custom designed by DOES for a skate deck collector in the USA and the hand painted aspect was completed with Ironlak Acrylic Colour and Ironlak Pump Action paint markers.
