The Museum of Graffiti opened its doors yesterday in Miami’s Wynwood district. The museum opens amongst the chaos that is Wynwood during Art Basel, positioning itself as the world’s only museum dedicated exclusively to graffiti art.
Ahead of this week’s celebrations, MAST, CES, YES2, and DOVES teamed up to create one of 11 murals commissioned by the Museum of Graffiti. Their mural tells the story of The Graffiti Experience and highlights a writer’s journey within Illegal Means Of Creativity. We hit up MAST to share some flicks and tell us more about their wall at the museum.
“I was hype when CES hit me up with an invite to be on the team of writers that were gonna paint a mural for the new Museum of Graffiti that was opening up in Wynwood, Miami this year on December 5th. CES, YES2, DOVES, and I set out to create a mural that illustrated our journey through graffiti culture.”
“The mural begins with the first visual cues that sparked interest, from seeing trains painted, watching Style Wars, and flipping through the pages of Subway Art. It then showcases the progression of graffiti writing to walls, freights, and our (and others) dedication to documenting the work being produced. We then move into the current technological age of graffiti where travel, communication online, and the internet widen the scope of possibilities in our awareness and involvement within the culture. Big up to museum co-founder Alan KET for all of his time and energy in making the museum a reality! Pieces! ✌️” –MAST
Check out the mural in person at Museum of Graffiti which is now open at 299 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33133, USA.
