On a steaming hot summer day, hoards of likeminded writers from all over Europe congregated at the legal walls by the Danube River in Vienna to take part in the Ironlak BBQ Burners.
Apparently the BBQ hotplate wasn’t the only surface that could burn you on this 40+ degree day.
STORM was in attendance, here’s his report about the day.
“The weekend in Vienna was one of the hottest summer heat waves I have ever experienced. Trying to walk outside the apartment during the day could leave you in a serious meltdown or heatstroke as it was around 40-42 degrees. Even in the evening the weather was uncomfortably hot.
We started early on the day of the BBQ to avoid the sun and get a head start. Most of the writers had to take long breaks and fight over the small amount of shelter from the sun. If you forgot the cans in the sun they could melt the asphalt leaving small ring marks on the ground. If you tried to pick up the cans you could easily burn your hand. As the sun went down people could finally finish their pieces.”
