Ironlak are proud to announce tomorrow’s opening of “OUTPOST PROJECT, Art from the Streets”, on Friday 4th of November, 2011. This is set to be the largest celebration of Street and Graffiti Art the country has ever witnessed.
Sydney’s Cockatoo Island – a short ferry trip from the city – has been taken over by a squadron of local and international Street and Graffiti Artists, transforming the island into an art mecca featuring individual and collaborative work by some of the world’s freshest talents.
Running for five weeks from November 4, “OUTPOST PROJECT, Art from the Streets,” is an inaugural free event with large scale installations, exhibitions, live art moments, films and forums. There will be innovative education workshops and art-making projects as well as pop up bars, artist battles, demos, DJs, tours and activities for families.
OUTPOST PROJECT will feature more than 100 individual artists and artists’ collectives, making it the biggest street art festival in the Southern Hemisphere.
“We’re proud to present an event of this scale, demonstrating Australia’s leading role in the street art movement. Cockatoo Island’s vast abandoned factories and intriguing forgotten alleyways are the perfect backdrop for projects showcasing the energy and diversity of contemporary street art,” said Mr Bailey, Executive Director of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust. “Street art is usually temporary, being sprayed or pasted-up one day and transformed the next. With OUTPOST PROJECT, people will be able to see a huge range of street art in the one place. And because of its dynamic and live nature, the art will change and evolve, giving visitors something different to see throughout the course of the festival.”
