DOES recently made a trip to South America; here’s a little insight into what happened written by DOES himself.
After visiting Colombia 3 years ago, Brazil was high on my travel list. I was invited for the third Kolirious festival in Rio De Janeiro. What a city! A 3-day festival with more than 40 local and international artists, well organized by Fabio & Muk.
On the second day of the festival I had the chance to meet and paint with Brazilian Does from Sao Paolo. It was a great experience and it is interesting to see that our passion for the same letters lead to such different styles.
Time for some sightseeing: Buzios and Rio’s favela’s were the definite highlights. Christo, the statue atop Corcovado, was a must see. After a bus trip to the top of the mountain I found myself amongst an enormous crowd of tourists who had all come to enjoy the amazing view over the city of Rio.
The best part of the trip was painting in one of Rio’s favela’s. With many thanks to graffiti artist Acme who lives at the very top of favela Pavão in Copacabana. Whilst climbing the many steep stairs that characterise the favela, the man himself showed us around and made sure I was able to paint some of the best spots I could ever imagine. There were too many good walls and not enough time so I decided to do some faster pieces. Meanwhile I was awestruck by the way of life and the friendly smiles that met my eyes. If only that day would have lasted longer!
Towards the end of the trip I met and painted with Eco, Ment, Fame & Acme.
Muito obrigado Brazil!
